Yellowjacket Season

 

Just before spring is the time to start the  “Yellowjacket Abatement” program!

 

One queen yellowjacket looks for her springtime nest. She will produce between 1,500 to 15,000 individuals between then and midsummer. Nests are commonly built in rodent burrows, protected cavities like voids of walls and ceiling of houses.

 

These wasp show up during BBQ and picnic time because they are looking for protein, this is why they are sometimes referred to as the “meat bee”. At the end of the season they require sugars for energy.

 

Yellowjackets can become very aggressive when disturbed. They are unlike the bee who only stings once, then die. The yellowjacket will attack you in numbers over and over.
